MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611001203 A) filed by Maharana Pratap University Of Agriculture And Technology, Udaipur, Rajasthan, on Jan. 6, for 'poultry feed additive comprising five phytase-producing serratia strains.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Devendra Jain; Dr. Deepak Rajpurohit; Dr. S. Ramesh Babu; Dr. Divya Vyas; and Dr. Suman Sanadhya.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a poultry feed additive comprising a defined microbial consortium of five phytase-producing Serratia strains, PHB-7, PHB-10, PHB-16, PHB-24 and PHB-34, each characterised by 16S rRNA identification and measurable extracellular phytase activity. The strains are combined in predetermined ratios to obtain a reproducible cumulative phytase activity and are formulated as live cultures, dried powders, encapsulated preparations or immobilised preparations. The feed additive further includes one or more carrier materials and optional stabilisers to maintain microbial viability and functional enzyme activity. The invention also provides a process for preparing the microbial consortium and formulating it into the poultry feed additive. The disclosed compositions are suitable for incorporation into poultry feed in various manufacturing formats."
