According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This invention relates to a smart wound dressing designed for early detection of surgical site infections (SSIs) in post-cesarean patients. Cesarean wounds are vulnerable to infections that can lead to serious complications if not identified promptly. Current monitoring relies on visual inspection and symptom reporting, which often delays diagnosis. The dressing incorporates infection-sensing elements such as pH-sensitive dyes, temperature-responsive materials, or biosensors that detect early infection markers like elevated pH, increased temperature, or bacterial by-products. Upon detecting infection, the dressing changes color visibly or sends a wireless alert to healthcare providers or patients.Made from biocompatible, breathable, and absorbent materials, this dressing ensures comfort and safety for postpartum women. Suitable for clinical and home use, it supports early intervention and reduces complications, hospital readmissions, and healthcare costs. This invention offers a practical, non-invasive, and cost-effective solution.to improve infection surveillance and enhance maternal recovery after cesarean delivery."
