MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641018065 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 18, for 'position-based mechanical door closing system with multi-position stopping mechanism.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A position-based mechanical door closing system includes a housing (1) mounted adjacent to a door, a lever (4) rotatably connected to the housing (1) and attached to the door, a pinion gear (3) connected to the lever (4), a piston (8) with a toothed portion meshing with the pinion gear (3), wherein the piston (8) includes stepped features defining predetermined angular positions, a compression spring (6) compressed when the piston (8) moves during door opening, a pneumatic damping mechanism including a washer (2) restricting airflow during door closing and a slitter (5) progressively reducing an airflow passage as the piston (8) moves, and a stopper pin (9) configured to engage with the stepped features to arrest piston movement at predetermined angular positions."
