MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531130155 A) filed by Narula Institute Of Technology, Kolkata, West Bengal, on Dec. 22, 2025, for 'portable qr-based medicine identification and information system.'

Inventor(s) include Prajes Das; Monjima Dey; Parthiv Majumder; Anindo Paul; Tanmoy Ghosh; and Dishani Roy.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system for automated pharmaceutical verification is disclosed, comprising a compact optical capture module configured to acquire high-resolution images and spectral characteristics of a solid oral dosage form. The module transmits the captured data to a processing module executing a pre-trained machine learning classification model, such as a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), to instantaneously generate a unique classification signature for the dosage form. A verification logic unit utilizes this signature to query a linked pharmaceutical data repository, identifying the medication and its associated parameters, and subsequently performing a rules-based assessment against patient-specific data, including expiration, prescribed regimen, and potential drug-to-drug interactions. The system provides an immediate, auditable verification status via an integrated user interface, thereby significantly mitigating medication administration errors and enhancing overall patient safety in diverse usage environments."
