MUMBAI, India, April 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411071941 A) filed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Sept. 24, 2024, for 'portable fixture for in-situ repair of damaged bearing hole in mounting rib of aircraft-wingassembly.'

Inventor(s) include Manjinder Singh Virk; Sameer Srivastava; and Salil Sagar.

The application for the patent was published on April 10, under issue no. 15/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Portable Fixture (1) has been designed and developed using a 3D CAD model followed by CNC Machining, sub-assembly operations which is related to Mechanical Engineering field to carry out in-situ repair of damaged bearing hole in Mounting Rib (3) of Aircraft-Wing Assembly (2). The Portable Fixture is made up of three sub-assemblies namely Wing contoured structured base (4), Side Plates (5) which are attached to the Wing contoured structured base (4) by using suitable fasteners and Hole Location Unit (6) which is rigidly fastened to the side plates (5). The portable fixture is made up of aluminium alloy and offers high degree of positional accuracy and alignment when placed on the Wing assembly. Portable Fixture eliminates the requirement of de-riveting and dismantling of Aircraft-Wing Assembly (2) by carrying out in-situ repair thus saving loss of lifespan along with "Aircraft on ground" (AOG) time of Aircraft."
