MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123223 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 6, 2025, for 'polyvinyl alcohol films with ginger essential oil for food preservation.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Ramalingam C; Mr. Ashlin Samuel; and Mr. Shaileshkumar B.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides an edible film composition including a polyvinyl alcohol matrix, glycerol as plasticizer, and ginger essential oil, forming a biodegradable edible film. The ginger essential oil is present at 0.5% to 1.0% v/v and provides antimicrobial protection against E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Listeria monocytogenes. The film exhibits FTIR absorption peaks at 1708 cm-1 corresponding to C=O stretching from gingerol compounds, at 1562 cm-1 corresponding to aromatic C=C stretching, and at 842 cm-1 corresponding to aromatic out-of-plane bending vibrations. The preparation method involves heating distilled water to 95-100 C, adding PVA powder incrementally while stirring, incorporating glycerol, adding ginger essential oil dropwise, and casting the solution into Petri dishes for drying at 60 1 C."
