MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541133870 A) filed by B. S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute Of Science And Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 30, 2025, for 'polyhydroxybutyrate (phb) from orange peels.'

Inventor(s) include Faridha Begum I; Hemalatha S; and P Nirmal.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present subject matter is a method of preparation of PHB from orange peel. The method steps comprise collection and preparation of orange peel; one step oxidation of orange peel waste; preparation of fermentation media, growth of bacterial stains like Lysinibacillus tabacifolii & Thioalbus denitrificans in the fermentation media producing PHB; and extraction and purification of PHB."
