MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441006374 A) filed by Silphion Research Private Limited, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 31, 2024, for 'plant melanin based broad spectrum sunscreen.'

Inventor(s) include Renita Lourdhurajan.

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a formulation of sunscreen comprising: Bis Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl triazine (BEMT) within a range of 2% to 10%; Melanin within a range of 0.02% to 0.5%; Sodium Hyaluronate within a range of 0.01% to 1%; Glycerin within a range of 2% to 20%; Fructose within a range of 0.01% to 0.32%; Withania somnifera Root Extract within a range of 0.003% to 0.075%; Phenoxyethanol within a range of 0.36% to 0.9%; Ethylhexylglycerine within a range of 0.04% to 0.1%; Diisopropyl Sebacate within a range of 0.5% to 25%; Limnanthes Alba Seed Oil within a range of 1% to 25%; Polyglyceryl-4 Oleate within a range of 0.25 % to 3%; Polyglyceryl -3 Polyricinoleate within a range of 0.25% to 3%; Ethylhexyl Olivate within a range of 0.22% to 2.7%; Sodium Acrylates Copolymer within a range of 0.075% to 0.9%; Polyglyceryl-4 Olivate within a range of 0.12% to 1.5%; Mixed Tocopherols within a range of 0.05% to 1%; and Aqua."
