MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411069409 A) filed by National Institute Of Food Technology Entrepreneurship And Management, Sonipat, Haryana, on Sept. 13, 2024, for 'plant-based synbiotic beverage formulation and a method of preparation thereof.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a vegan plant-based synbiotic beverage formulation resulting in a nutritionally rich beverage having prebiotic and probiotic properties. The formulation is prepared using a combination of cereal, millet, and oilseed along with a probiotic bacterial culture, to enhance health benefits. The plant-based beverage formulation is prepared using a combination of cereal, millet, and oilseed in a ratio 1: 1: 1. The formulation is complemented by the addition of natural sweetener/sugar and fermented with a probiotic culture. After fermentation, the formulation is enhanced by the addition of sweetener/sugar and flavor. The formulated vegan beverage is rich in calcium iron, dietary fiber, polyphenols, and antioxidants. The formulation provides an alternative for lactose-free and gluten-free products. The plant-based beverage also exhibits a good sensory score with values close to the commercial dairy-based probiotic beverages."
