MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641061774 A) filed by Dr. Yallamalli Indira Muzib, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, on May 15, for 'piperine-loaded quatsome gel for enhanced cutaneous delivery for psoriatic lesion management and anti-inflammatory activity.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Yallamalli Indira Muzib.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a piperine-loaded quatsomal gel for enhanced dermal delivery and provides an effective non-steroidal alternative for the treatment of psoriasis and inflammatory skin disorders. The topical pharmaceutical composition, comprising: piperine, a cationic surfactant, and cholesterol forming a vesicular system, and a pharmaceutically acceptable gel base; wherein cationic surfactant comprises cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) present in an amount 50 to 150 mg; cholesterol in the range of 100-200 mg and the gel base comprise Carbopol in the range of 0.5-2%, wherein the vesicular system exhibits, particle size 120-300 nm, zeta potential +25 to +60 mV, and entrapment efficiency 84% to 87.1%, and wherein the composition provides enhanced dermal permeation and controlled drug release. The optimization studies using factorial design revealed that a ratio of 1:1.5 resulted in maximum entrapment efficiency and minimum particle size. The composition provides drug release of at least 85% within 12 hours, and enhanced permeation of at least 1.2-fold compared to a conventional formulation. The topical composition showed 1.28-fold higher flux (3.6 g/cm/hr) and 1.28-fold higher permeability (0.036 cm/hr) compared to a conventional formulation. The topical pharmaceutical composition can be used for the treatment of psoriasis or inflammatory skin disorders."
