MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611052712 A) filed by Chitkara University, Rajpura, Punjab, on April 24, for 'phytopharmaceutical film-forming nail lacquer comprising thuja essential oil for enhanced transungual drug delivery and antimicrobial activity.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a phytopharmaceutical film-forming nail lacquer formulation comprising Thuja essential oil for the treatment of fungal and bacterial nail infections. The formulation includes film-forming polymers, a surfactant, penetration enhancers, a plasticizer, a solvent, and stabilizers to enhance transungual drug delivery. Upon application, the formulation forms a thin, adherent film enabling sustained release of the active constituents. The system exhibits improved nail penetration, drug retention, and broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. The formulation demonstrates 80-95% drug release within 8-12 hours and enhanced permeation and retention, providing an effective, stable, and scalable topical therapeutic solution."
