MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641001899 A) filed by Aditya University; Aditya College Of Engineering And Technology; Aditya College Of Pharmacy; and Aditya Degree College, Surampalem, Andhra Pradesh, on Jan. 7, for 'pharmaceutical composition of emtricitabine tablets and method of preparation.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure proposes a pharmaceutical composition (100) that enhances tablet disintegration, improves dissolution, and increases bioavailability. The pharmaceutical composition (100) comprises an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) (102), a natural disintegrant (104), a pre-gelatinized starch (106), a microcrystalline cellulose (108), a lactose monohydrate (110), and a magnesium stearate (112). The pharmaceutical composition (100) is configured to disintegrate in an aqueous medium to enable accelerated drug release and absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. The proposed pharmaceutical composition (100) is highly compatible with conventional manufacturing techniques, including direct compression, ensuring ease of scale-up and commercial production. The proposed pharmaceutical composition (100) is easy to swallow and pose a reduced risk of esophageal lodging, especially important for long-term medication adherence in HIV patients."
