MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611051082 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, New Delhi, on April 22, for 'performance-based design catalogue for geocell-reinforced flexible pavements under variable traffic and subgrade conditions.'
Inventor(s) include Manna, Bappaditya; Banerjee, Sayanti; and Shahu, J. T.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method and framework for geocell-reinforced flexible pavement design, catalogue development, and construction are disclosed. An effective California Bearing Ratio, traffic loading value, and unreinforced base-layer modulus are determined, and a field-derived Modulus Improvement Factor is applied to obtain a reinforced base-layer modulus. Mechanistic analysis, including determination of tensile strain at a bottom of a bituminous layer and compressive strain at a top of a subgrade, is performed to select thicknesses of the bituminous layer, geocell-reinforced base layer, and subbase layer. Full-scale field study data are used to validate the Modulus Improvement Factor and develop a design catalogue for multiple subgrade and traffic conditions. A pavement may then be constructed using a selected thickness combination from the catalogue. In some embodiments, a computer-implemented system performs the design analysis and outputs the thickness combination."
