MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202642042655 A) filed by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Gyeonggi, Republic of Korea, on April 2, for 'pdcp discard mechanism for extended reality in wireless network.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a method for discarding packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) packets for an extended reality (XR) in wireless network (1000). The method includes detecting whether XR discard timer for PDU Set is expired. In an embodiment, the method includes receiving radio resource control (RRC) message including PDCP configuration, and then obtaining PDCP service data unit (SDU). In another embodiment, the method includes performing if the PDCP SDU is associated with the service, starting, based on obtaining PDCP SDU, the second discard timer associated with the PDCP SDU, and if the second discard timer expires and the information indicates that UE (300) performs the PDU set-based discarding, discarding all PDCP SDUs and PDCP PDUs belonging to a PDU set to which the PDCP SDU belongs, wherein PDCP SDUs subsequently received are discarded if the PDCP SDUs belong to the PDU set."
