MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531129093 A) filed by Biomat Innovations Private Limited, Rayagada, Odisha, on Dec. 19, 2025, for 'passively actuated self-flowing beehive system.'

Inventor(s) include Mr. Ankit Meher; Ms. Trushna Rani Nahak; Ms. Priyambada Pr. Behera; Ms. Ipsita Ratha; Dr. Sudipta Maity; and Dr. Swastik Behera.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a 3D-printed biobased beehive engineered to enable automated honey harvesting through a novel gravity-actuated, spring-loaded mechanism. The beehive structure comprises two primary components-an upper frame and a lower (down) frame-assembled within a housing made from sustainable, biodegradable bioplastic using additive manufacturing techniques. The upper frame is positioned between two fixed pins that define its vertical motion limits, while the lower frame is connected to the upper frame via sliding pins that allow guided vertical movement. A set of compression springs is mounted at the base, each anchored between the lower frame and the beehive base plate. The system is designed to operate without motors, electronics, or manual intervention, relying solely on weight-induced mechanical activation to extract honey efficiently while minimizing disturbance to bees."
