MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531003266 A) filed by Sichern Techno Health Private Limited, Bhubaneswar, Orissa, on Jan. 14, 2025, for 'paper-based electrochemical sensors with protective coating.'

Inventor(s) include Subhrojeet Singha Roy; and Saikat Ghosh.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a paper-based electrochemical sensor (100) and a method for fabricating the same. The sensor comprises a cellulose-based paper substrate (110), a selectively applied hydrophobic layer (108) for liquid confinement and electrical isolation, a carbon conductive layer (104) forming a middle working electrode (112) and a bottom counter electrode (114), a silver conductive layer (106) forming a top reference electrode (116), and a patterned insulating layer (102) defining active sensing regions. The sensor is configured as an elongate strip with optimized electrode geometry and dimensions for compatibility with portable potentiostats and low sample volumes. The method includes coating the paper substrate with hydrophobic materials, screen-printing conductive and insulating layers, and controlled thermal curing to achieve stable and reproducible electrochemical performance. The invention provides a biodegradable, flexible, and cost-effective alternative to PET-based electrochemical sensors, exhibiting enhanced sensitivity, controlled liquid handling, and suitability for disposable and point-of-care diagnostic applications."
