MUMBAI, India, June 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311070422 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research, New Delhi, on Oct. 16, 2023, for 'oxy-tethered cation exchange membrane from fluorinated polymer and its method of preparation thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Uma Chatterjee; Jeet Sharma; Sarthak Mishra; Shubham Mishra; Vartika Sharma; Vaibhav Kulshrestha; and Prashant Upadhyay.

The application for the patent was published on June 13, under issue no. 24/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides a cation exchange membrane with exceptional acid stability and oxidative resistance having repeating unit of Formula-I. This membrane prepared by threading p-benzoquinone with oxy-radical activated Poly (vinylidene) fluoride (O-PVDF)via. ozonation followed by solvent immersion sulfonation in chlorosulfonic acid bath. Formula-I Sulfonatedfluoropolymeric membrane possess high fixed sulfonic acid group charge densities on hydrophobic PVDF which improves the overall electrochemical properties of membrane showed enhanced oxidative stability as well as acid resistivity and assessed as a potential cation exchange membrane for practical application in electro-membrane and electrochemical energy applications."
