Inventor(s) include Abhishek Mondal; Sukriti Larka; Thalluri Akhila; Anshu Gautam; and Suhani Sinha.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a novel orodispersible oral thin film delivery system of metformin hydrochloride developed to improve therapeutic efficacy, onset of action, and patient compliance. The invention addresses limitations associated with conventional oral dosage forms, such as delayed absorption, first-pass metabolism, and gastrointestinal intolerance. The formulated oral thin films enable rapid disintegration in the oral cavity and efficient buccal absorption, making them suitable for patients with dysphagia or poor adherence. The invention further encompasses nanoparticle-loaded metformin hydrochloride films designed to enhance mucosal permeation and central nervous system availability. The formulation exhibits uniform drug distribution, mechanical stability, and compatibility with oral mucosa. Owing to its improved pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic performance, the invention is particularly useful for managing neuropsychiatric conditions such as stress, anxiety, depression, and cognitive impairment, while maintaining a favorable safety profile."
