MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641030238 A) filed by RV College Of Engineering, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on March 13, for 'orion: bidirectional consumption-driven retail inventory and demand intelligence system.'
Inventor(s) include Somesh Nandi; B. Sathish Babu; Chirag H; and Joseph Rejo Mathew.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a bidirectional retail intelligence system that links consumer consumption behaviour with inventory control through a closed operational feedback loop. User actions such as capturing images of items or recording usage events are transformed into structured consumption signals that update personal and store inventory states in real time. Operational data and behavioural logs are persistently stored and converted into analytical features for embedded predictive and descriptive models, including demand forecasting, depletion prediction, personalised recommendation, behavioural segmentation and anomaly detection. The resulting intelligence is delivered through separate consumer and retailer channels to generate role specific alerts, guidance and procurement directives. These outputs actively influence subsequent consumption and stocking actions, which in turn produce new data for further analysis. By coupling execution with analytics in a continuous loop, the system enables predictive inventory management, reduces manual data handling and improves demand planning accuracy based on real world usage patterns."
