MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641001483 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education and Research; and Meenakshi Ammal Dental College And Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 6, for 'oral spectral analytical eye-glasses for early detection of potentially malignant oral lesions and biopsy site selection.'
Inventor(s) include Dr Arthi Sri A. S.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a wearable, hands-free, multi-spectral optical diagnostic eyewear for early detection of oral potentially malignant disorders and for accurate biopsy-site selection. The device comprises an ergonomically configured eyewear frame supporting multilayer optical lenses, a centrally mounted wavelength-specific illumination module, electrical circuitry, and an optional mobile-device interface. The multilayer lenses incorporate a white-light enhancement filter, a blue-violet autofluorescence excitation filter operating in the range of 400-460 nm, a green-red vascular contrast filter operating in the ranges of 520-560 nm and 600-650 nm, dual polarisation layers for glare reduction, and contrast-enhancement films for improved visualisation. The illumination module comprises wavelength-specific light-emitting diodes optically aligned with the lenses. During operation, sequential spectral modes enable identification of surface irregularities, fluorescence loss, and abnormal vascular patterns, wherein spatial overlap of these features determines an optimal biopsy site. The invention enables portable, reproducible, and accurate detection of potentially malignant oral lesions during routine clinical examination."
