MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641061916 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on May 15, for 'oral diagnostic toothbrush.'
Inventor(s) include Amit Kumar Rahul; Saksham Anand; and Vasu Arya.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An oral diagnostic toothbrush system (100) comprises a handle body (102), a brush head having bristles (116), a saliva receiving path, a check valve (114), a central micro-channel cavity (134), capillary channels (130), a first reagent zone (124) for pH detection, a second reagent zone (126) for hemoglobin detection, a third reagent zone (128) for protease detection, a control zone (132), an illumination arrangement, and an optical sensing arrangement. Saliva enters the central micro-channel cavity (134) through the check valve (114) and distributes through the capillary channels (130) to the first reagent zone (124), the second reagent zone (126), the third reagent zone (128), and the control zone (132). The illumination arrangement illuminates the zones, and the optical sensing arrangement detects optical responses corresponding to respective saliva biomarkers. The system generates an oral diagnostic output based on the detected optical responses during brushing."
