Abstract: OPTIMIZING MICROBIAL PIGMENT PRODUCTION: ENHANCING ARTHROBACTER GANDAVENSIS-DERIVED NATURAL DYES FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS A method for producing a natural orange microbial pigment from Arthrobacter gandavensis is disclosed. The method comprises culturing the bacterium in an aqueous medium comprising approximately 0.5% glucose and approximately 0.5% peptone at approximately pH 8.0, approximately 30°C and approximately 150 rpm under low-salinity conditions, followed by alcohol-based recovery of the pigment. Under the reported optimized conditions, pigment production of up to approximately 18.9 mg/L is obtained. The recovered extract is characterized by UV-visible absorption features at approximately 219.84, 259.42 and 343.79 nm. The pigment demonstrates reported thermal, pH and ultraviolet stability under the tested conditions. The process provides a microbial route for production and recovery of a natural pigment for potential industrial colouring applications, subject to applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
