MUMBAI, India, Aug. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411006997 A) filed by Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Mohali, Punjab, on Feb. 2, 2024, for 'oil spill collecting device.'

Inventor(s) include Monica Sharma; Dr. Baljinder Kaur; Ritika; and Shagun.

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 8, under issue no. 32/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An oil spill collecting device comprises of a hull-shaped body 1 developed to be positioned over a surface of water body having oil spill to float over the surface, a motorized propeller 2 via a motorized ball and socket joint 3 to provide movement to the body 1 over the surface to initiate the oil spill recovery, a fluorescence sensor to determine presence and type of the oil spill in vicinity, a ultrasonic sensor to determine thickness of the oil spill, a suction pressure to be applied over the surface for recovery of the oil spill, extendable L-shaped rods 4 extend to position suction cup 5 over the surface, a hydraulic suction unit integrated with the rods 4 to withdraw the oil spill by applying the evaluated suction pressure an imaging unit 7 integrated with a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) for determining surface area of oil spill."
