MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641050133 A) filed by Mr. M. Muniasamy; Dr. S. Joe Patrick Gnanaraj; and Ms. S. Jeyam Jacqueline, Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on April 20, for 'octagonal solar distillation unit.'
Inventor(s) include Mr. M. Muniasamy; Dr. S. Joe Patrick Gnanaraj; and Ms. S. Jeyam Jacqueline.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The disclosed invention is an advanced solar energy-based system designed for the purification of contaminated water. The system features an innovative octagonal configuration formed by the integration of a central basin with strategically arranged rectangular and triangular arms. The rectangular arms are equipped with multi-stepped trays incorporating modular compartments, which enhance evaporation efficiency and optimize thermal energy utilization. The triangular arms include a combination of specially configured cells designed to ensure consistent solar absorption and improved thermal performance. To further enhance productivity, external reflectors are incorporated to concentrate additional solar radiation, thereby improving performance under low sunlight conditions. The scalable structural design enables the system to meet diverse water demands, ranging from individual household usage to larger community-level applications. Constructed from durable materials, the system ensures extended operational life with minimal maintenance requirements thus providing an environmentally sustainable solution, offering a promising approach to addressing water scarcity."
