MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541113089 A) filed by Sroshini; R Anushika; T Dharshini; P Hari Shankar; and V Kabilan, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Nov. 18, 2025, for 'object detection with parkmate.'
Inventor(s) include Sroshini; R Anushika; T Dharshini; P Hari Shankar; and V Kabilan.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This project presents a Object Detection with Parkmate that leverages computer vision and machine learning to detect real-time parking spot occupancy using video input. Built on Python with OpenCV and Num'Py, the system processes frames from either a webcam or recorded video to analyze parking lot status. Pre-defined parking space locations are established using a binary/ mask, enabling precise region-based analysis. Each frame undergoes grayscale transformation, thresholding, and contour detection to assess vehicle presence. Detected spots are visually annotated with green boxes for available and red for occupied spaces, while a real-time counter displays the total number of vacant spots. The design emphasizes simplicity, scalability, and adaptability to different parking configurations through customizable masks. This system simulates intelligent parking solutions aimed at reducing congestion, improving traffic flow, and enhancing user convenience in urban environments."
