MUMBAI, India, Oct. 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517078633 A) filed by Astech Co. Ltd., Chungcheongnam, Republic of Korea, on Aug. 19, for 'novel method for producing terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonic acid.'

Inventor(s) include Yoon, Jong-Bae; Baek, Hyun-Woo; Park, Ho-Joon; and Choi, Eun-Wha.

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 10, under issue no. 41/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a method for producing terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonic acid, and, specifically, to a method for producing terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonic acid through a step of preparing a terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfuryl intermediate compound from a terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonate. The method for producing terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonic acid, of the present invention, proceeds by means of a synthesis reaction, and thus theoretically has a salt-to-acid conversion rate of 100%. The present invention solves problems of a conventional technique so as to not use ion exchange resins, and thus reduces the cost of ion exchange resins and does not generate acidic waste, which is generated during regeneration thereof. In addition, yield is excellent and mass production is possible."

The patent application was internationally filed on Mar. 29, 2024, under International application No.PCT/KR2024/004052.
