MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641005989 A) filed by Easwari Engineering College; and Srm Institute Of Science And Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Jan 21, for 'neuroretina: ai integrated retina scanner for early detection of alzheimer disease.'

Inventor(s) include Jeevitha S R; Nishitha S M; and Mrs Amsavalli K.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This invention details a cost-effective, Al-enhariced retinal scanner designed for dry signs of Alzheimer's disease. The system's deep learning models, composed of U-Net for vessel segmentation and ResNet for classification, are integrated with the scanner's lightweight optics. The workflow also includes new preprocessing methods for enhancing vascular biomarkers that are AI correlates of dementia. In contrast to MRI and PET 15 protocols, the scanner is mobile, non-intrusive, and designed for instant evaluation. Outputs are the classification with the associated confidence score, and the segmentation i with overlays that clinicians can use for enhanced decision-making. In its mission of ' . lfl!idespread deployment, the scanner includes an intuitive application that makes it d'p erational within rural and resource-limited areas and is beneficial for both medical and 2'0 non-medical users. The invention is a major step towards Alzheimer's diseases biomarkers screening which enables early treatment, preventive care and monitoring of t~e population at-large."
