MUMBAI, India, June 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311083795 A) filed by National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute; Center Of Innovative And Applied Bioprocessing; and Department Of Biotechnology, Mohali, Punjab, on Dec. 8, 2023, for 'nanoencapsulation of anthocyanins extracted from food and agro-industrial waste using biocompatible materials and applications thereof.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This invention describes the development of sustainable bionanocomposite packaging materials using A-LNPs. This invention also illustrates the extraction and purification of anthocyanins from black wheat bran, poor-graded black plum, and blueberries as well as nanoencapsulation of these anthocyanins using kraft lignin. The application of A-LNPs with enhanced stability, antioxidant activity, and antimicrobial activity brings about UV-blocking properties in PVA-PEG-A-LNPs packaging films. This invention also claims the capability of these films to enhance the shelf life of tomatoes."
