MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611052563 A) filed by Chitkara University, Rajpura, Punjab, on April 24, for 'nanocarrier-based injectable pharmaceutical composition of fixed oil from nigella sativa seeds for enhanced anticancer activity.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Madhukar Garg; Mr. Suman Kumar Nath; and Dr. Ritchu Babbar.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A nanocarrier-based pharmaceutical composition comprising fixed oil extracted from Nigella sativa seeds is disclosed for enhanced anticancer activity. The composition is formulated as a sterile injectable nanosuspension suitable for intravenous administration, addressing limitations of poor solubility and low bioavailability associated with hydrophobic plant-derived bioactives. The fixed oil, rich in thymoquinone, is encapsulated within nanocarriers selected from solid lipid nanoparticles, nanoemulsions, or liposomes, having a particle size in the range of 50-150 nm. The formulation further comprises pharmaceutically acceptable lipids, surfactants, isotonic agents, buffering agents, and optional antioxidants. The composition exhibits improved encapsulation efficiency, sustained drug release, enhanced cellular uptake, and reduced systemic toxicity."
