MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123568 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 8, 2025, for 'nano emulsion formulation of magnesium chandanadi thailam and melatonin for sleep enhancement.'
Inventor(s) include Ashwathi Damodaran; Vinyay Kumar; Dinesh Kumar G; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Nanoemulsion Formulation of Magnesium, Chandanadi Thailam and Melatonin for Sleep Enhancement The present invention relates to the development of a novel nanoemulsion formulation combining magnesium, Chandanadi Thailam, and melatonin for improving sleep quality in adults with insomnia. The formulation is designed as an oil-in-water nanoemulsion, with melatonin incorporated into the lipid phase of Chandanadi Thai lam, magnesium dispersed in the aqueous phase, and stabilized using pharmaceutically acceptable emulsifiers. The preparation involves emulsifier mixing, addition of actives, and high-shear homogenization followed by ultrasonication to achieve a droplet size of 20-200 nm. Characterization confirmed nanoscale size with low polydispersity and stable zeta potential. Comparative release studies demonstrated superior solubility and absorption, with the nanoemulsion showing 30-50% higher bioavailability compared to conventional formulations. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled evaluation further indicated significant improvements in sleep onset latency, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scores, and overall sleep efficiency. This invention provides a safe, stable, and synergistic tri-active composition offering an innovative approach for insomnia management."
