MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541132918 A) filed by R. M. K. Engineering College, Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 29, 2025, for 'multimodal computer vision assistance system for independent living of the visually impaired.'

Inventor(s) include Swetha S; and Gnanasekaran T.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Assistive technologies have an important role in promoting inclusion, particularly from the standpoint of visually impaired individuals. While great progress has been made, visually impaired people continue to struggle to understand much of their surroundings, jeopardizing their freedom and safety. The objective of the present invention is to develop a comprehensive system using computer vision that includes facial recognition and obstacle recognition technologies specifically for disabled visually impaired individuals. Another objective of the present invention is to provide a user-friendly and intuitive system for visually impaired individuals, so that they can navigate their homes safely, recognize and interact with people thereby enhancing their daily lives."
