MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541132910 A) filed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 29, 2025, for 'multifunctional catalyst, method of its preparation and uses thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Fathima Safeeda NV; Meera Balachandran; and Naveen Kumar K.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a multifunctional hybrid catalyst having silica support derived from a biogenic silica precursor and one or more metal oxides, wherein the one or more metal oxides are uniformly incorporated in the silica support. The present disclosure also relates to a method of preparation of a multifunctional hybrid catalyst including the step of pre-treating a biogenic silica precursor with a first acid followed by washing with a first solvent to obtain an acid-treated biogenic silica precursor followed by drying to obtain a dried acid-treated biogenic silica precursor. The dried acid-treated biogenic silica precursor is subjected in a base to obtain a base-treated biogenic silica precursor followed by filtering and cooling the filtrate to obtain a sodium silicate solution. The sodium silicate solution is titrated with a second acid and one or more metal precursors to obtain a gel followed by cooling and centrifugation to obtain a hydrogel. The hydrogel is washed with a second solvent followed by drying and calcination to obtain a multifunctional hybrid catalyst. The present disclosure also provide a method of preparation of 2, 5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA)."
