MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611025008 A) filed by Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on March 3, for 'multi-zone lateral flow paper strip for rapid and instantaneous microbial detection in water.'
Inventor(s) include Ms. Urvashi Tyagi.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention provides a multi-zone paper strip for rapid, equipment-free detection of microbial contamination in water. The strip incorporates three reagent zones containing dry stabilized substrates that react with enzymes characteristic of total coliforms, E. coli, and general bacterial load. Upon dipping the strip in a water sample, capillary action activates each zone, resulting in distinct color changes within 15-30 minutes. The device is portable, low-cost, and suitable for use in households, rural areas, and field settings. Optional smartphone-based analysis allows semi-quantitative interpretation for enhanced accuracy."
