MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541115039 A) filed by Nandha Engineering College, Erode, Tamil Nadu, on Nov. 21, 2025, for 'multi-zone controlled updraft biomass gasifier with annular airflow path, distributed air suction.'

Inventor(s) include K Pradeep Kumar; P. Sandhiyadevi; A Dharani Shree; B. Jaishri; R. Jayaram; and S Monisha.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an updraft gasifier constructed with a concentric dual-cylinder configuration for controlled biomass gasification. The gasifier comprises an inner cylinder (17) forming the gasification chamber and a surrounding outer cylinder (16) defining an annular pathway for air and exhaust-gas circulation. Biomass is introduced through a feed hopper (1) at the upper end of the inner cylinder. A blower (2) connected to an air flow inlet (3) supplies air into the annular pathway, and the air enters the gasification chamber through a series of vertically spaced air suction holes (6) formed along the inner cylinder. The outer cylinder is provided with an exhaust gas inlet (4) and an exhaust gas outlet (5) for circulating or conditioning exhaust gases around the chamber. Multiple thermometer ports (7, 8, 9, 10) placed at different heights enable monitoring of temperature zones within the gasifier. A producer gas outlet (11) is positioned at the upper region of the system for withdrawal of generated gas, while an ash grate (12) and an ash collector (14) operated through a handle (13) facilitate removal of ash from the lower portion of the gasifier. The integrated arrangement supports zone-specific airflow, temperature sensing, and gas withdrawal in a compact updraft gasification system."
