MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641017266 A) filed by Adhithyan V J; Athul Varghese Abraham; Alen Shajan; Dhanush R; and Er. Bibin P Varghese, Kottayam, Kerala, on Feb. 16, for 'multi-layered composite type hydrogen storage system for high-pressure combustion.'
Inventor(s) include Adhithyan V J; Athul Varghese Abraham; Alen Shajan; Dhanush R; and Er. Bibin P Varghese.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This engineering project discloses the comprehensive design of an ultra-resilient, high-efficiency hydrogen storage system utilizing an advanced Type IV Composite Pressure Vessel specifically optimized for the high mass-flow demands of a Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine vehicle. The system maximizes volumetric fuel density through an internal cavity containing a Zirconium-based Metal-Organic Framework adsorbent, enabling high-density gas packing at 700 bar while precluding the cryogenic boil-off associated with liquid storage. The vessel architecture comprises four specialized layers designed to withstand simultaneous mechanical, electrical, and thermal stresses: an innermost High-Density Polyethylene permeation barrier with a static-dissipative coating to mitigate electrical shorts and gas embrittlement; a structural filament-wound Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer core for high-pressure containment; a shock-absorbing Kevlar layer integrated with a dynamic neck-mounting geometry that allows the vessel to float independently of chassis deformation to neutralize kinetic energy from collisions; and an external thermal fortress of intumescent epoxy coating and Multi-Layer Insulation . Operational safety is governed by a multi-tiered failsafe protocol including an accelerometer-triggered, normally closed solenoid dead-man's switch for vessel isolation, mechanical Excess Flow Valves to choke sheared downstream lines, and a Thermally Activated Pressure Relief Device to prevent Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion events by facilitating the upward venting of highly buoyant gas during sustained fire engulfment."
