MUMBAI, India, Oct. 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517078443 A) filed by Sparxell Uk Limited, London, on Aug. 19, for 'multi-layered cellulose films and particles.'

Inventor(s) include Shen, Qingchen; Droguet, Benjamin; and Vignolini, Silvia.

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 10, under issue no. 41/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention provides a multi-layered cellulose film, a multi-layered cellulose particle, methods of preparing the multi-layered cellulose film and particle, and uses of the multi-layered cellulose film and particle, and derivates thereof. Particularly, the method includes a cholesteric layer formation step comprising the steps of a) depositing a nanocrystal suspension comprising cellulose nanocrystals onto a substrate; b) spreading the nanocrystal suspension across the substrate using a spreader; c) ageing the nanocrystal suspension to partially or completely recover the cholesteric structures lost during deposition and spreading; and d) drying the deposited nanocrystal suspension so that the nanocrystals self-assemble to form a cholesteric layer. The cholesteric layer formation step is repeated two or more times and the multi-layered film comprises the cholesteric layer in direct contact with another cellulose containing layer."

The patent application was internationally filed on Feb. 23, 2024, under International application No.PCT/EP2024/054661.
