MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641018324 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 18, for 'multi-layer intrusion detection system.'
Inventor(s) include Jai Vinita L; Akshaya H; and Anushka Rai.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A multi layer intrusion detection system (100) is designed to safeguard an external device from threats introduced through USB drives by combining hardware monitoring, secure analysis, and visual documentation. It (100) uses a single board computer (102) to detect when a USB device is inserted and to examine the specific data it contains. A sandboxing module (104) further creates a protected, layered file system environment where the USB content can be safely analyzed without risking any modification to the core files of the system being monitored. Alongside this, a malware scanning module (106) inspects the analyzed data for harmful files, malicious code, or unusual behavioral patterns that may indicate an attack. For any suspicious or malicious activity is detected, a connected camera unit (108) automatically captures visual evidence, providing an additional layer of security and supporting forensic investigation. Together, these components create a comprehensive, isolated, and proactive defense mechanism against USB based threats."
