MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541134137 A) filed by Nitte, Mangaluru, Karnataka, on Dec. 31, 2025, for 'modular tensegrity structural column for building construction.'
Inventor(s) include Mr. Thushar S Shetty; Dr. Shanmukha Shetty; Dr. Bhojaraja B E; and Mr. Pradeep Karanth.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed herein is a modular tensegrity structural column (100) for building construction comprising compression members (102) configured as mild-steel hollow sections arranged in a non-contacting spatial configuration, and a network of tension members (104) configured as high-tensile steel cables interconnecting the compression members (102) in a prestressed state to maintain structural equilibrium through self-equilibrated forces. The column (100) includes a modular assembly (106) of identical sub-units (108) vertically stacked to form a predetermined total height, with an upper connection interface (110) and a lower connection interface (112) comprising bolted steel plates for integration into floor slabs. Tension adjustment mechanisms (114) comprising turnbuckles enable prestress calibration. The lightweight configuration reduces dead load and foundation requirements while providing superior seismic resistance through elastic deformation and energy dissipation, enabling rapid on-site assembly and scalability for varying building heights."
