MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641007340 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 25, for 'modular bionic hand with single-actuator multi-bar finger mechanisms for human-like grasping.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Suya Prem Anand P; Aishwary Vishal Dixit; Lallith Aditya R P; and Sanjay Kumar S.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A modular bionic hand with single-actuator multi-bar finger mechanisms for human-like grasping is provided. The hand system 100 includes a palm structure 102 having an anthropomorphic geometry; and one or more fingers 104 that are detachably coupled to the palm structure 102. Each finger includes a single rotary actuator 108, a underactuated multi-bar linkage 110 mechanically coupled to the rotary actuator 108; and one or more articulated phalange segments 112 driven by the underactuated multi-bar linkage 110. The rotary motion of the rotary actuator 108 in transformed by the underactuated multi-bar linkage 110 into a coordinated flexion of the one or more articulated phalange segments 112 along a constant closed kinematic path, thereby producing a human-like curling motion using one actuator per finger."
