MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531092307 A) filed by Narula Institute Of Technology, Kolkata, West Bengal, on Sept. 25, 2025, for 'modified pvc - poly(butyl acrylate) blend by nano zinc oxide incorporation.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Rupa Bhattacharyya; Dr. Sarbani Ganguly; and Dr. Sumit Nandi.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The study under consideration aims at generating a modified PVC-PBA blend in the composition ratio 70:30 by incorporating nano ZnO within it. The product so formed exhibited enhanced mechanical behavior in terms of ultimate tensile strength, modulus and toughness from unmodified compound. It was observed that the introduction of the nano material into the PVC -PBA blended matrix produced a directing influence to enhance the mechanical significantly over that of unmodified blend. The Young's modulus values rose from 324 MPa to 403 MPa assisted by a rise of ultimate tensile strength from 12.8 MPa to 29 MPa. Instead of a corresponding fall in the elongation and toughness values, the properties were retained significantly with even a marginal increment in toughness value. So, the product generated carries immense potential of commercialization and PVC product with better strength and durability can be synthesized to enrich the market of commodity plastics."
