MUMBAI, India, Nov. 21 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517097339 A) filed by Ifp Energies Nouvelles, Rueil-Malmaison, France, on Oct. 9, for 'modified clostridium bacteria capable of producing propan-2-ol, and preparation and uses thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Da Costa, Gwladys; Lopes Ferreira, Nicolas; and Wasels, Francois.
The application for the patent was published on Nov. 21, under issue no. 47/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to the genetic modification of bacteria of the genus Clostridium, typically solventogenic bacteria of the genus Clostridium, so as to allow the production of propan-2-ol or of a mixture comprising propan-2-ol and ethanol by said bacteria. Additionally described are methods, tools and kits for obtaining said bacteria, the genetically modified bacteria obtained, and their uses."
The patent application was internationally filed on Mar. 29, 2024, under International application No.PCT/FR2024/050414.
