MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517056319 A) filed by Massachusetts Institute Of Technology; and Regency Technologies Llc, Cambridge, U.S.A., on June 11, for 'millimeter-wave directed-energy excavation.'
Inventor(s) include Cohn, Daniel; Woskov, Paul, P.; Einstein, Herbert; and Oglesby, Kenneth.
The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Apparatus and methods are described for excavating earthen material with millimeter- wave (MMW) radiation or a combination of MMW radiation and mechanical apparatus. The MMW radiation can reduce costs and hazards associated with excavation using mechanical means only and/or explosives. MMW-assisted excavation has significant energy advantages over optical or long- wavelength microwave excavation techniques."
The patent application was internationally filed on Nov. 29, 2023, under International application No.PCT/US2023/081543.
