MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511113529 A) filed by Chitkara University; and Chitkara Innovation Incubator Foundation, Rajpura, Punjab, on Nov. 18, 2025, for 'microsponge-based topical gel for controlled release of silymarin in atopic dermatitis.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Ujjwal Kaushik; and Archana Kaushik.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a microsponge-based topical gel formulation for controlled dermal delivery of silymarin to treat atopic dermatitis. Silymarin is entrapped within porous ethyl-cellulose microsponges prepared via solvent diffusion and dispersed into a Carbopol gel containing ethanol and propylene glycol as penetration enhancers. The microsponges provide sustained drug release up to 24 hours, improve drug residence time on the skin, minimize irritation, and reduce application frequency. The formulation demonstrates high entrapment efficiency, desirable spreadability, stability, and superior therapeutic efficacy."
