MUMBAI, India, Nov. 21 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521105126 A) filed by Dr. Prachi Charudatta Mehendale; and Ms. Prajakta Dnyaneshwar Chaudhari, Maharashtra, on Oct. 31, for 'microemulsion of pongamia pinnata seed extract for antifungal and anti-psoriatic effect.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Prachi Charudatta Mehendale; and Ms. Prajakta Dnyaneshwar Chaudhari.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 21, under issue no. 47/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Microemulsion of Pongamia pinnata Seed Extract for Antifungal and Anti-Psoriatic Effect The present invention relates to a stable microemulsion formulation comprising ethanolic extract of Pongamia pinnata seed incorporated with Pongamia pinnata seed oil as oil phase, wherein the extract is obtained by Soxhlet extraction of authenticated and dried seed powder with ethanol following petroleum ether defatting, the oil being obtained simultaneously from petroleum ether extraction and standardized against marketed oil, the microemulsion being formulated with Labrafil M 1944 CS as surfactant and Span 80 as co-surfactant at a Smix ratio of 2:1, optimized through pseudo-ternary phase diagram constructed by water titration method, the process comprising dissolution of extract in oil followed by surfactant addition, heating to 60-70 C, titration with purified water q.s. to 100% under continuous stirring at 1200 rpm to yield a thermodynamically stable, homogeneous nanoscale dispersion, wherein the optimized microemulsion containing 0.9% w/w extract demonstrates antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-psoriatic potential with controlled release kinetics following Higuchi model."
