According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A therapeutic composition for treating diabetic nephropathy is disclosed, comprising a methanolic extract of the leaf of Cornus capitata Wall Ex. Roxb. The composition is administered to a subject in need thereof to significantly decrease blood glucose, body weight, and key markers of kidney dysfunction, including BUN, uric acid, and creatinine. The inventive composition also increases beneficial serum total protein and albumin levels while providing potent antioxidant protection by reducing malondialdehyde and nitrates and restoring endogenous antioxidant enzymes like SOD and GSH in renal tissue. The disclosure further provides a method for improving the histological integrity of pancreatic and nephritic cells. The disclosed composition and method offer a novel and effective approach to managing the renal complications of diabetes."
