MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531000868 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Kharagpur, West Bengal, on Jan. 3, 2025, for 'methodology for enhancing efficacy of lipophilic drugs by targeting lipid droplet accumulation in lipid-rich conditions.'
Inventor(s) include Pradhan, Supratim; Pradhan, Nilanjan; and Mukherjee, Dr. Budhaditya.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention provides a pharmaceutical composition for enhancing the efficacy of a lipophilic drug by targeting lipid droplet accumulation. The proposed methodology leverages Aspirin's capacity to inhibit lipid droplet formation within host cells, addressing a fundamental barrier to drug penetration in lipid-rich environments, such as macrophages infected with Leishmania donovani. Further, by reducing lipid droplet accumulation, the proposed method significantly improves the penetration and responsiveness of drugs like Amphotericin B, effectively overcoming resistance linked to lipid-mediated drug sequestration."
