MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631031810 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Rourkela, Orissa, on March 17, for 'method of optimal synthesis of d-limonene-rich essential oil extracted from citrus limetta peels.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method (200) of optimal synthesis of d-limonene-rich essential oil extracted from citrus limetta peels. The method (200) comprising the steps of cutting (at step 202) citrus limetta peels and washing repeatedly with deionized water, grinding (at step 204) the chopped peels into a fine peel paste, preparing (at step 206) a solution of peel paste and an alcohol comprising ethanol 1:10 (weight/volume), sonicating (at step 208) of the prepared solution using ultrasonic-assisted probe to obtain crude extract of the d-limonene-rich essential oil, filtering (at step 210) crude extract of the d-limonene-rich essential oil, evaporating (at step 212) ethanol from the filtered purified extract to obtain the d-limonene-rich essential oil as a residue, fractional distillation (at step 214) of the d-limonene-rich essential oil and assessing (at step 216) the d-limonene-rich essential oil using one or more characterization techniques."
