MUMBAI, India, Nov. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517069861 A) filed by Virent, Inc., Madison, U.S.A., on July 22, for 'method for wet air oxidation regeneration of biomass hydrogenation catalysts with switching between oxygen- and nitrogen-atmosphere; biomass hydrogenation method including such.'

Inventor(s) include Steenwinkel, Edgar; Van Straten, Matt; Blommel, Paul; Anson, Colin; Tyson, George; and Hatch, Dana M.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 14, under issue no. 46/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides systems and methods for producing a regenerated hydrogenation catalyst used for hydrogenating a biomass feedstock. The method can include a regeneration cycle, in which a fouled hydrogenation catalyst is contacted with (a) a first flushing medium comprising water and a gaseous phase comprising oxygen and (b) a second flushing medium comprising water and a gaseous phase comprising at least 90% nitrogen by volume. In particular, multiple regeneration cycles can be used to improve efficiency in removing sulfur-containing impurities from the fouled catalyst."

The patent application was internationally filed on Jan. 18, 2024, under International application No.PCT/US2024/012060.
