MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517064693 A) filed by Shell Internationale Research Maatschappij B. V., The Hague, Netherlands, on July 7, for 'method for treating grains to produce material useful for chemicals and biofuels.'

Inventor(s) include Ishizawa Higuchi, Claudia Ines; Chheda, Juben Nemchand; and Survase, Shrikant.

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method for treating grains having starch and non-starch carbohydrates, wherein the starch is present in an amount of at least 10 wt.% based on the dry weight of the grain. The grain is contacted with a solution containing at least one a-hydroxysulfonic acid; and to react under acid hydrolysis conditions to produce a product that is suitable for producing chemicals and/or fuel."

The patent application was internationally filed on Jan. 18, 2024, under International application No.PCT/US2024/011981.
