MUMBAI, India, Nov. 21 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517097032 A) filed by Kabushiki Kaisha Yakult Honsha, Tokyo, on Oct. 8, for 'method for transforming bacterium belonging to genus bifidobacterium.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Provided is a method for efficiently transforming a bacterium belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium. The method for transforming a bacterium belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium comprises bringing the bacterium belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium as a recipient into contact with a bacterium or linear DNA as a donor containing a DNA to be introduced into the recipient, and performing stationary culture, wherein the culture medium used in the stationary culture has a pH of 6.0 or more and less than 10.0 and satisfies the following requirement: when the pH is 6.0 or more and less than 8.5, the content x (mass%) of sugars that can be assimilated by the bacterium belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium as the recipient is in the range of 0 x = 0.2 (pH)-1.2; and when the pH is 8.5 or more and less than 10.0, x is in the range of 0.2 (pH)-1.7 = 0.2 (pH)-1.2."
